Lisha Gayle was a 42 year old social worker from St Louis a former newspaper reporter. She was stabbed more than 40 times when a burglary took place in her home. The laptop of her husband also stolen.

During the trial, prosecutors argued that Marcellus Williams broke into her house on August 11th 1998. Lisa was in a shower at the time and he found a large butcher knife and went on to stab her.

Requests refused by the State Supreme Court

The relatives of Gayle agreed last month to commute the sentence of Williams to life in prison. The agreement was nullified by the Supreme Court on appeal by the Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s Office.

The requests were denied by the state Supreme Court on Monday. The execution carried out on Tuesday via lethal injection.
