Pravin was the founding commissioner on the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and he was appointed two times as the finance minister of South Africa. He came against the opposition face on the Zuma and Gupta-led project of state capture. And he was only 75 years of age when he died on Friday morning.

Pravin had no regrets and Passed Away Peacefully

The Finance Ministers Family released a press statement earlier today stating that “Pravin passed away peacefully in hospital surrounded by his family, closest friends and his lifelong comrades in the liberation struggle.” They also stated that he had “no regrets, no regrets…We have made our contribution”.

During his last moments he was surrounded by his wife Vanitha, and his daughters, Anisha and Priyesha. Along with many friends and comrades that celebrated his life long struggle for liberation, anti-apartheid activism throughout.

It was on Tuesday that Pravin Gordhan was admitted to the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Johannesburg. He was diagnosed with cancer although he was a trained pharmacist and a former freedom fighter upon retiring from politics.

During his years he was a fighting light on the brutal attacks and racial insults due to his opposition of the state capture. It was a project that was captured by the former president Jacob Zuma acting alongside Gupta and different other ANCE networks.

In his second period as the South African Finance Minister between December 2015 and March 2017, Pravin was the only standing defence line against Zuma-Gupta. During this time the Treasury and the SA Reserve Bank was the biggest prize.
