Remote Workers often say they are prone to be more productive with no one to distract them. They also mention how they save time and ensure large quantities are met when they work from home. Is this really true for all of remote and hybrid workers?
Are Remote and Hybrid Workers doing more than their Job?
There have been fresh findings discovered on remote workers recently on what they actually spend their time doing.
We have seen how employees in the office often tend to waste time gossiping and talking to their co-workers. Some might even be browsing through social media not out of boredom but purely for stimulation.
On the other hand is been found that nearly half of remote workers engage in multitasking while on work calls. They tend to do their household work such taking the garbage out, placing dishes in the dish washer and doing laundry.
Taking Advantage out of the Flexibility
Some remote workers tend to take full advantage of getting to stay home for work. It was found some of them even attend the grocery store, stock fridges and pick up dry cleaning. If you could you blame them or is this totally alright is up to debate.
Certain surveys revealed that some even sleep on the job. You can argue that it depends on the job and its fair game. If you have a job that keep you on your toes at all times, sleeping is not optional in that case. So just remember, this doesn’t apply to all remote and hybrid workers.
Over 17% of people that worked form home reported they worked form a different location while engaging in video games. And there was the tiny fragment of workers that also did a side job while working.
Many of them have also admitted to multi-tasking while on a Zoom call. Is that really surprising given the fact that your camera remains off? While some remote workers reported to be using the bathroom while on work texts and calls. Browsing through social media was also a common occurrence among both type of workers.
It’s just not the employees and co-workers that do this. Managers and CEOs alike are finding themselves multitasking while on work.
Conclusions
The convenience of working from home brings flexibly and freedom. It is up to debate who is to blame? Or is anyone even to be blamed for this in the first place? However the advantages of working from home should never be misused to the point one’s own work suffers.
