The presidential helicopter was ready to take off and transport President Emmerson Mnangawa prior to the Zimbabwe Helicopter crash. It was scheduled to fly to Harare from Bikita and take-off from the Masvingo Airport in the afternoon.
What Happened in the Zimbabwe Helicopter crash?
This incident took place following the attendance of President at the Munhumutapa Day—a new national event launch. The event was organized together with Mnangagwa’s 82nd birthday. He celebrated his Birthday at the event at the Great Zimbabwe Monuments.
According to latest reports, the helicopter was carrying on a few crew members and suffered technical difficulties leading to failure. Some media reports express that the Preisdent or Vice President was not on board.
Although the Munhumutapa Day celebrations were taking place, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was unable to attend. However, Vice-President Kembo Mohadi was at the event even thou he was not reported to have been in the Zimbabwe Helicopter crash.
A Technical Failure in Presidential Helicopter
The evening schedules were to take off from Masvingo Airport in the late afternoon and head off to Bikita to bring the President back to Harare.
At this point there were two helicopters with the Presidential helicopter developing a technical malfunction before taking off. The Helicopter was crashed after taking off with major impact. Reports states that crew members who were flying have been severely injured, but so far there have been no deaths.
This is surely not the first incident where the Presidents helicopter has experienced technical difficulties. Going back to 2021, a similar incident took place with the presidential helicopter having to make an emergency landing. The landing took place in Harare 60KM Southwest.
